The Federative Republic of Brazil has awarded Julie Dzerowicz, Federal Deputy for Davenport, Toronto, with the Order of Rio Branco in the category of Grand Officer.

The Order of Rio Branco is one of the most important official distinctions of Brazil. Its purpose is to recognize the services and exceptional merits of nationals and foreigners in relation to Brazil and its people. The order is named after the Baron of Rio Branco, the patron of Brazilian diplomacy and its most important historical figure. The distinction is granted to a limited number of persons after approval by a ministerial council chaired by the Head of State.

The commendation is a sign of Brazilian recognition of MP Julie’s contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between Canada and Brazil, especially as President of the Canada-Brazil Friendship Group in Parliament and as an active advocate of the Brazilian community in Canada.

The award ceremony of MP Julie with the Rio Branco Medal was held at the residence of the Brazilian Ambassador in Ottawa Denis de Souza Pinto, on June 18, 2018.

Regina Filippov, co-director and co-founder of Brazilian Wave, attended the ceremony in Ottawa.
