Simple and delicious!
For many Brazilians, Christmas supper has to be rounded off by a large helping of warm french toast, covered in cinnamon and sugar for dessert. This really makes sense: in such a moment of reflection, the sweet naivety of the dish can be a lesson in simplicity.
- thickly sliced, stale, hard baguette.
- 5 eggs beaten.
- 750 ml red wine or 600 ml milk.
- 1 ½ cup sugar.
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon.
- vegetable oil (or butter) for frying.
How to make it
Pour the wine (or the milk) into a shallow bowl, and the beaten eggs into another one. Mix the sugar and the cinnamon on a plate. Heat the oil (or butter) in a frying pan. Dip each slice of bread first in the wine (or milk), then in the eggs. Fry it in very hot oil, and then transfer to a plate lined with paper towel. After that, coat it in the sugar mixture. Serve piping hot.
