Inspired by her grandmother, librarian to run 80 km to support the Canadian Cancer Society

The goal is to cover the distance by the end of April and raise 500 Canadian dollars.

Librarian Sanam Ganj has quite literally started a run to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Instead of simply asking for donations, Sanam is running every day in pursuit of contributions.

An amateur athlete, she works at the Richmond Hill Public Library, in the Greater Toronto Area. Her goal is to run 80 kilometres and raise at least 500 Canadian dollars by the end of April 2026. Donations can be made through the website where Sanam shares her story.

According to her, she achieved this milestone in April 2025. With the support and encouragement of friends, family, and colleagues, she reached her goal and raised more than $500, which was also directed to the fight against cancer. This year, she decided to take on the challenge again. “I’m doing this again. This cause means a lot to me, as I lost my beloved grandmother to cancer,” she said.

She explains that running and fundraising are her way of honouring her grandmother and supporting others who are battling the disease. “If you can, please consider making a donation. Your support not only helps this important cause, but also motivates me to keep going,” she concluded.
