For many, feeling homesick for Brazil is even stronger when winter comes and the cold comes knocking on Canadian soil. Meanwhile, the sun reigns supreme on Brazilian soil! So for those who plan to land in Brazil during the end of this year, something good to do while in the country, besides visiting the family, would be to take in all the marvels that this country has to offer. Well then, pack your bags and make your vacation an unforgettable one. Want to give it a try? Here are some helpful hints about some incredible destinations to visit when the temperature rises from the north to the rich, southern Brazilian coast.

In the state of Pará you will find Alter do Chão, a rustic but charming fisherman’s village located on the edge of a fresh water beach made up of the Tapajós river, around 1457 km from Belém. During the dry season, the low level of the water makes, roughly, 100 km of fluvial beaches with soft, white sand appear. For those who come here, the sensation is like having found paradise! Just remember that, in January, you can only reach the majority of the islands by boat, the main means of transportation in the region.

The famous Pipa beach impresses all who visit. Beaches with clear, warm water, natural pools and incredible landscapes all the while offering an excellent infrastructure. Tours through the forests and over the dunes are also something to be experienced. The varied cuisine and happening nightlife is also something to see and do. Located in the municipality of Tibau do Sul (RN), this beach was elected by Quatro Rodas Guide as one of the 10 most beautiful in Brazil. It is 85 km away from Natal.

Another hip and legitimate Brazilian miracle! Roughly 300 km from Fortaleza, in the recent past Jericoacoara was just a fisherman’s village visited only by adventurers. Currently, the preserved natural beauty of this location has blended in with the excellent Inns and restaurants, besides the nightlife with many things to see. One of the highlights would be the moving, white sand dunes. This region is under environmental protection.

Caraíva – BA

In Caraíva, a district of Porto Seguro (BA) located 770 km from Salvador, you can make a choice: luxurious Inns or modest and rustic establishments that are also full of charm. Independent of the decision, the beautiful beaches are there for everyone to enjoy! Ideal for those who are looking for peace and quiet, this place – where electrical energy has only been present for the past two years – only calls for adequate flip-flops to circulate around the streets and soft sand, where only “wagon-taxis” may travel. If you can, reserve a couple of days to visit Trancoso. Just 39 km separate Caraíva from this destination, which is breathtakingly beautiful.

Ilha Grande – RJ

Ilha Grande has one of the most varied paradisiacal beach menus around. One of them was considered one of the most beautiful in Brazil by the British newspaper, The Guardian: Lopes Mendes beach. It is considered the “capital” of Ilha Grande and is not easily accessible (it is reached by foot-trail or by boat) which, therefore, guarantees its preservation. Any and all effort made to reach this beach is compensated when the tourist sets his gaze upon the transparent, green and blue water. Ilha Grande is a district of Angra dos Reis and is 125 km from Rio de Janeiro (plus a 1 hour and 30 min. boat ride from Mangaratiba).

It has diverse river and ocean beaches, which offers even more leisure options. The advantage that Guarda has is its proximity to another paradise in the Catarinense state: Rosa beach, located less than 45 km away.
