Message from the Wave Team
This edition celebrates Canada Day – July 1 – and, of course, the long-awaited summer season.
Read the exclusive interview with Vitor Martinez Silva, a young Brazilian circus artist making a name for himself in Canada.
On July 1, Canada celebrates its national identity with Canada Day. It’s a date that encourages us to learn more about the country and its Indigenous Peoples.
In the sports section, discover lacrosse, Canada’s national sport rooted in Indigenous celebrations.
The sunny season – spring and summer – boosts the trade of flowers and ornamental plants. According to Flowers Canada Growers, the country has around 1,600 producers employing more than 14,000 people in approximately 7 million square meters of greenhouses.
July is also the month of BrazilFest ’25. The Brazilian event takes place on July 19 and 20 at Earlscourt Park in Toronto. We’ll be there, handing out the Wave 2025–2026 calendar!
Learn about the journey of Vanessa Sandre, the first Brazilian selected for the Canadian Film Centre.
And how about some open-air cinema? The Toronto Outdoor Picture Show – Cinema in the Parks presents free screenings at Corktown and Christie Pits parks until August 24.
To make the most of the season, we’ve selected six parks in Toronto for you to enjoy summer with friends and family. Ideal places for leisure, nature, and relaxation — free and right in the city.
In the gastronomy section, this edition’s recipe: Canadian Caipirinha, with strawberry and maple syrup. Perfect for summer.
Happy reading!
